Overview
DESCRIPTION
To feel at home in Germany is the goal of our long term program. Our carefully chosen host families open their home not for a guest student, but for a new, temporary member of the family. Students attend the local public school, in most cases together with the children of their host family. This program exceeds by far the improvement of linguistic skills.
Once a student is fluent in the German language, he will start discovering the German culture and form friendships that may last a lifetime. He will begin to see Germany as his second home and more often than not, return to Germany to continue his education or professional career. This program combines the adventure of living in a foreign country with the safe and affectionate family life.
This program allows students to experience the everyday life of German students.

LOCATION
Throughout the country (public schools).
The placements are throughout the whole country, it depends where we will find a suitable host family. A regional choice is not possible. We do not work with specific public schools, we do find the host family first and then ask the local public school for permission to take the student.
We cannot guarantee a certain school as we may not find a host family close by. Also, we cannot guarantee a specific location. We try to explain the students that they can travel to their favourite area towards the end of the program or after. Students have to be open minded and not fixed on a certain area in Germany, the choice of the host family is more important.

TYPE OF SCHOOLS
Most of our students will attend the local Gymnasium. With classes ranging from year 5 to year 13 it is the most difficult school type in Germany. Classes are more abstract, students are confronted with different theories and ideas, and asked to create their own opinion. Most of our long term students will attend year ten or eleven. Please note that the decision is solely up to the school principal. A good knowledge of the German language will help to be placed at a higher class, though. Graduation for students on an exchange visa is not possible.

If the student shows less experience, he/she must attend a language test at the orientation seminar at the beginning of the program. The test will check the conversational skills of the student as well as the vocabulary. In case of failure, he/she has to attend a four weeks German class. This will take place in Cologne, starting on Monday after the orientation. The class includes full board accommodation with a host family. Additional costs are € 1.800. This class can also be booked in advance: pre-bookings which are made up to four weeks before the start of the program will receive a discount of € 250. To help you evaluating the student´s skills, we are happy to offer part of the test via telephone (free of charge) with each student any time beforehand. We offer the German class only for the programs starting in August. Students starting in January, who don’t have the necessary language skills, will be assisted in booking a language course with a different company in Germany.

Housing/Accommodation
Homestay / Host Family

ACCOMMODATION Host family, full board. This program combines a Homestay in a German host family with the enriching experience of life at a German high school. Students should be prepared to take part in family life as full members and to help with various tasks around the house. During their stay, students may stay with more than one host family. Our families reflect the German reality: they live in villages, small towns or big cities, and can be a family with many children, only one or childless. Also single parents or older people can become host families. We welcome host families of every race, nationality, religion, colour or socio-economic level.

Program Costs
From 3090 euros

Costs Include:  - Administration fees - Registration and placement in a local high school. - Host family placement on a full board basis - Airport pick-up if arrival in Cologne (airport or train station) on the day indicated on the Acceptance Letter, on arrival - Orientation on arrival - Support, assistance and 24 hours emergency phone number during the whole program
