Overview
DESCRIPTION
The primary purpose of the Academic Year Program in Italy is to improve the student’s knowledge of Italian culture and language through active participation in family, school and community life. A secondary purpose is to improve the Italians knowledge of the foreign culture. The Academic Year Program is designed to give the student an opportunity to spend a certain period studying at an Italian high school. For the duration of the program, the student is placed with an Italian volunteer family.

Throughout the country.
Students will be placed in any region of Italy according to availability, and no student can request a specific geographic area or environment.

Eligibility
AGE From 14 to 18 years old on arrival. REQUIREMENTS Students must be interviewed in their home country before being accepted. A minimum of 2 years of Italian study and good academic results are required.

Housing/Accommodation
Homestay / Host Family

Volunteer host family, on a full board basis. We will place the student with a carefully selected Italian family or families for the duration of the program. We shall interview host families at their home to assure that they have the capacity and economic resources to properly host a teenage exchange student. The host family will provide accommodation, meals in the home, and at the family’s option a packed lunch for school if lunch is not taken at home. All meals away from home (including school lunches) are to be paid for by the student.

Program Costs
From 3495 euros

Costs Include:  -Administration fees -Placement in a local public school -Host family placement on a full board basis (packed lunch on weekdays) -Airport pick-up and transfer to the host family on arrival and departure -Orientation on arrival -Support, assistance and 24 hours emergency phone number during the whole program

Dates
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Application deadline: March 31st for arrival in September; August 31st for arrival in January.

AGE
From 14 to 18 years old on arrival.

DATES FOR THE PROGRAMS
The school year begins in the middle of September and ends by the middle of June.
- Academic year : September - June or January – November
- Spring Semester : January – June
- Fall Semester : September - January
The school year begins in the middle of September end ends by the middle of June. There are two weeks of vacation for Christmas and about a week for Easter; some one-day civil or religious holidays are spread over the school year and in some areas the School Authority may authorize few other days of vacation.
