Overview
DESCRIPTION
Students will be hosted by American host families and will attend classes in local High Schools.
The purpose of the High School Program is to provide opportunities for people of diverse cultures to come together to learn about different points of view and ways of life. Cross-cultural understanding is, we believe, a fundamental step in promoting better friendship and world peace. We expect the highest standards of behaviour from program participants at all times and, in turn, assume responsibility for the welfare and safety of the student throughout the program.
LOCATION
Throughout the country.
No guarantee is made with regard to placement in a particular region of the United States, nor in a town of a certain size, nor with a particular kind of Host Family (for example, with a teenager in the home).
TYPE OF SCHOOLS
Public.
American high schools believe that the presence of international students enhances the learning environment; teachers expect them to be active in the schools life. Extracurricular activities are offered by all schools: sports and music are really popular but photography or volunteer work may also be offered. These activities are a good way to integrate and to make friends among American students. The student is responsible for all school fees: registration, books, lockers, laboratories, gym/physical education, yearbook, class ring, letter jacket, student activities, extra-curricular etc.
High Schools expect exchange students to maintain high academic standards and to participate actively in school life. American high schools believe the presence of exchange students enhances the learning environment. The Academic Year program is organized in US public High Schools.
