Overview
This program is one of the best possible investments a student can make for their future: total immersion in Germany is the ideal method not only to master the German language, but also to have a true multi-cultural experience. Students are considered as members of the German host family and share in their daily lives. By attending school and participating in the daily activities available there, students discover German culture and history in a way that cannot be gained through school books. This kind of experience is enriching, not only on a linguistic level but also for a students personal development.
This program is open to motivated students aged 15 to 18 who are not beginners in German. It features one semester or academic year in a German high school (Gymnasium or Realschule). Participants attend normal classes, including some obligatory courses and some which may be taken as options. The schools are carefully selected to ensure that they offer youth the best possible environment.
The full year programs begin in August or September and include a three day orientation, generally in Cologne, where students must take a language exam. Students who do not obtain satisfactory results on this exam must take additional language courses at their expense.
The placement can be anywhere in Germany. Stays may take place in small towns or large cities. Regardless of the location, however, students live a truly German experience with a warm, welcoming family.
