Overview
MILPA College of Costa Rica offers Spring, Fall and Summer programs in Environmental Studies from an interdisciplinary perspective and a hands-on approach focusing on Community Sustainable Development. Faculty and students work closely together to achieve an intensive academic training to prepare students to carry out applied field research with local communities involved in diverse projects of environmental protection, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and local economic development.
SEMESTER ABROAD PROGRAMS
College Environmental Studies Program
Environmental Studies Curriculum: a 16 credit semester of four interrelated courses:
• Environmental Anthropology and Sustainable Development,
• Tropical Ecology and Natural Resource Management,
• Principles of Community and Regional Planning, and
• Applied Field Research.
Spanish Courses and Cross-Cultural Learning: Spanish classes for individual proficiency levels, and Home-Stays with local families for a deeper language and cross-cultural experience.
Guided Field Trips throughout Costa Rica: to complement inter-disciplinary courses, cross- cultural experiences, and applied environmental research.
Volunteer work: in projects of Environmental Conservation and Community Sustainable Development.
6 week summer session for 6 credits will begin June 13in Tropical Ecology and Anthropology.
