Overview
The CIEE Study Center in Melbourne was established in 2002, enrolling students at two of Australia’s largest universities, La Trobe University and the University of Melbourne. Both universities offer excellent facilities, provide a high level of service to international students, and offer a wide range of highly regarded courses.
The CIEE Study Center provides students with a supportive environment in which to study in Australia and gain firsthand knowledge of Australian life and society. The program allows participants to fulfill home institution major requirements in a variety of fields. Where possible, students are encouraged to enroll in at least one course with specific Australian content or one that offers a distinctively Australian perspective in their area of interest. The University of Melbourne offers a wide choice of subjects covering Australian Studies and Aboriginal Studies, including field trips to some of Australia’s most beautiful destinations.
CIEE students are required to take the U.S. equivalent of 15 semester/22.5 quarter hour credits, which is equivalent to 50 points at the University of Melbourne. Students usually take three or four courses.
The University of Melbourne offers an internship program in which CIEE students can participate. It is set up and run by the university, and it is their standards and guidelines to which students must adhere in order to receive credit. The objective of the internship program is to place students in a professional work environment in which they will gain experience and knowledge in a field that is related to their major or academic coursework. The placements and time commitments vary depending on the needs of the student and the employer. Please check with your home institution advisor before departure to see if credit will be accepted for this internship. Contact CIEE for more information regarding this option.
