Overview
Our expedition explores and studies the Colorado River from its headwaters in the Colorado Rocky Mountains to its mouth on the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. The Colorado is one of the world's greatest watersheds providing inspiration, drinking/agricultural/ranching water, energy and recreation for the southwestern USA, Tribal Nations, and northwestern Mexico. While following the Colorado River from its source we will explore, hike, backpack and raft the mountains, canyons and deserts of the arid southwest. We travel through and visit with communities highly dependent on the river for their sustenance and livelihoods. By experiencing both relatively pristine and highly modified cultural landscapes, we'll develop a framework for considering opportunities and challenges for communities of the Colorado River.
