Overview
Imagine learning the archaeology of Jerusalem while walking the streets of the city, examining its ancient walls, seeing its historic buildings. Think about taking a course on prospects for peace in the Middle East in light of the current events unfolding daily in Israel. What could be more appropriate than studying the Hebrew language in the land of its birth?
The Freshman Program offers high school graduates the opportunity to take academically accredited courses at the Hebrew University in a framework designed for first-year university students who are planning to continue their undergraduate studies in their home country.
Accredited courses are offered in Jewish, Israel and Middle Eastern studies, as well as in general subjects frequently required of first-year students. Students with sufficient knowledge of Hebrew are encouraged to take departmental Hebrew University classes together with Israeli students. Upon successful completion of the year, students may be admitted as sophomores to universities and colleges in the United States or Canada.
Classes combine academic challenge with opportunities to live and breathe the subject matter, with visits to archaeological sites and interaction with Israeli society. The language of instruction is English, and no previous knowledge of Hebrew is necessary.
The diverse academic offerings are complemented by a variety of stimulating extracurricular activities, seminars and trips. Students are entitled to use the various University facilities. The University's indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and physical fitness club may be used for a moderate fee.
From the windows of the classrooms and dormitories of the Hebrew University, the incredible panorama of Jerusalem unfolds. We invite you to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
