Overview
The University of Melbourne is Australia's second oldest university, with a prestigious worldwide reputation for academic excellence in a wide range of subjects. The University is surrounded by shops, restaurants, art centers, libraries, sanctuaries, and beaches. Participants will have the opportunity to enroll in regular classes at the University. Prior to departure, participants select three courses from the courses available to study abroad students at the University of Melbourne. All instruction is by U of M faculty. The academic year has two 13-week teaching semesters followed by 4 weeks allocated to a one-week review "vacation" and a 3-week examination period. Typically, fall semester runs from mid-July through November and spring from mid-February through June. Fields of study include liberal arts and social sciences.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
Participants in the Brockport/University of Melbourne Program will normally earn five U.S. credit hours for each course successfully completed at the University of Melbourne, for a maximum of fifteen credits per semester. Students normally take 3 courses, adding up to 37.5 points per semester at the University of Melbourne.
Eligibility
A prospective participant should have:
Junior or Senior standing by the start of the program.
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
A GPA of 3.25 in an appropriate major.
The demonstrated ability to do upper-division work in the subjects chosen.
