Overview
OPERAPLUS is a cultural/educational organisation based in Belgium. It is dedicated to working with young singers between 18 and 32, who have, ideally completed their formal musical education at Academies and Conservatories of Music and are seeking ways and means to bridge the difficult gap towards a ‘full- time’ professional career in singing. Where younger singers are concerned, activities are specifically designed to be complementary to the on-going training provided by mainstream music schools. OPERAPLUS is fully committed to offering talented young singers various opportunities to participate in singing activities (‘Workshops’ / 'Masterclasses’ / Summer Schools, etc.), with vocal teachers, opera producers and coaches and accompanists of international standing. µ
Since 2006 the 16-day International Summer School for Singers is based in Estoril (Portugal) in co-production with the Estoril Music Weeks.
This year, 2008, internationally renowned Irish mezzo-soprano Ann MURRAY, Tenor, Robert WHITE, singing teacher at Julliard NY and Graham JOHNSON, the world's most acclaimed authority on Lieder, French Mélodie and English Song repertoire, will each give a 3-day Master Class.
FOR THE OPERA STAGING 2008 THE THEME IS "ROMEO AND JULIET"
Participants will perform roles and staged scenes from the following three operas centred around the theme of tragic love:
I Capuleti e i Montecchi - Bellini
Roméo et Juliette - Gounod
West Side Story - Bernstein
