Overview
For over thirty-five years students have studied German language, literature and culture at the Summer Language Institute in Eutin while living with German families. Students take three classes for a total of nine hours. Excursions and site visits included.
Eligibility
Open to students from any accredited U.S. college or university who have completed two semesters of college-level German or the equivalent. Students enrolled in the first semester of German in the spring semester of German may apply with the director's permission. Minimum 2.5 GPA required (exceptions considered after submission of a petition).

Program Costs
Program fee (2008): Approximately $3,240 ($3,440 for non-KU students).
Tuition and Fees: Estimated tuition and fees for 9 credit hours (based on standard tuition rate): $1,753.*
*Actual expenses for KU students will vary by the student’s individual tuition compact. Non-KU students will pay the standard tuition rate listed above.
Note: The program fee plus the tuition fee equals the total cost of the program. All dates, costs, and program information are subject to change as necessary due to fluctuations in the exchange rate or other reasons.
Costs
Include: The fee includes all tuition and fees, meals, lodging, cultural events and travel in Europe, and emergency medical evacuation and repatriation service.

May 31 Arrive Hamburg—Welcome to Eutin and meeting with host families
June 1 Exploration of Eutin—first orientation.
June 2-July 11 Study in Eutin: Instruction by KU Faculty and native speakers from Eutin. Visits to theaters, concerts, and museums. Study trips and excursions to:
Hamburg – Kunsthalle, Völkerkundemuseum, Innenstadt und Rathaus, Hafenrundfahrt
Lübeck – Museum Behnhaus, St. Petri, Marienkirche, Buddenbrookhaus, Holstentor, and Niederegger Marzipan
Kiel – Kunsthalle, Kiel University, Kiel Week sailing festival
Berlin – Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Potsdamer Platz, Schloß Charlottenburg, Schloß Bellevue, Potsdam and Sans Souci, Berlin Kreuzberg, and numerous museums (Check Point Charlie, Pergamon,
Filmmuseum Berlin, Käthe-Kolwitz Museum, Gedenkstätte Plötzensee).
July 12-15 Weimar: Weimar Goethes House, Concentration Camp Buchenwalkd, and city tour.
July 15-17 Badenheim (pop. 400): a wine-growing village: host family stay and visit to vineyards, Rhein cruise
July 17-20 Vienna: St. Stefans Cathedral, Mozart House, Museum of Art, Freud House, Hundertwasser House, Schonbrun Castle, Jewish Museum, Catacomb Tour, and city tour.
July 20-25 Munich: Frauenkirche, Deutsches Museum, Hofbräuhaus, Lenbachhaus, Pinakothek, Olympiapark, and English Garden.
Salzburg day trip: Mozart’s house, and city tour.
July 25 Program ends in Munich
