At Iracambi you’ll be on the cutting edge of the development versus conservation dilemma, helping to figure out ways that both forests and people can flourish. You'll start by learning why, for the past 500 years, the Atlantic Forest has been retreating in the face of predatory human settlement. You may be monitoring forest growth, taking soil and water samples, raising seedlings in our forest nursery, learning about forest medicinal plants, repairing and maintaining forest trails or selecting priority areas for creating forest corridors. You may be recording populations, doing inventory work, or working with a GPS on forest fragments. Whatever you are doing, you’ll be helping to make a difference: restoring the health of forests and forest communities. You'll be living in an international group of Brazilian and foreign students from several different countries, and you'll be interacting with the local community on environmental education and outreach, sharing your knowledge and experience and learning from them. Eligibility This program is available to students over the age of 18 from around the world. You must be physically fit, resilient and be blessed with a great sense of humour.
