Overview
Interns must have: Training and experience in deaf education, Sign language proficiency, Proficiency with computers (e.g. Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office applications), English language fluency, a desire to help children grow, flexibility, self-motivation, an openness to a new culture and a willingness to learn, willingness to live with a Filipino family.


The Department of Social Welfare is an active Philippine government agency whose mission is to help underprivileged children, families, the elderly, and the disabled in Tacloban City and the surrounding area. The Department of Social Welfare would now like to offer computer classes to local deaf children, who face many challenges growing up in a developing country. In partnership with the Department of Social Welfare, World Endeavors is seeking an experienced, English-speaking deaf educator who can help the children by teaching computer classes. If you have demonstrated experience in this area, and wish to volunteer in the Philippines, we welcome your application.

Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.  It is the student's responsibility to contact their academic advisor prior to departure to ensure that they can receive credit for their international internship.

Housing/Accommodation
Homestay / Host Family

Participants will stay with a local host family during their stay in the Philippines. A separate room will be offered to the participant. This is a great opportunity for participants to learn experientially about Philippine culture and family life. Participants can expect pleasant yet modest accommodations. Traditional Philippine food is served twice a day, in the morning and the evening.

Costs Include:  Excursions, Food, Housing, In-country orientation/Training, In-country staff support, Registration fees and Written materials abroad, Pre-departure packet to prepare you for your placement, World Endeavors support for any of your pre-trip questions, Airport pick-up and drop-off, All in-country travel and coordination, Philippine food and accommodations, Support from local World Endeavors representatives, Tour of Tacloban City, Tour of the Santo Nino Shrine and Heritage Center, Visit to MacArthur Beach at Palo, Volunteer placement
