Overview
Since 1950, IES has been building quality study abroad programs and introducing U.S. students to new places, studies, and ways of thinking. A non-profit educational organization, IES offers high academic standards and extensive financial aid in almost 30 programs throughout the world.
IES SALAMANCA program holds a strong academic reputation based on its challenging curriculum and solid ties to the Universidad de Salamanca. IES courses focus on Spanish language and Iberian culture, comparative studies of the Mediterranean basin, and comparative studies of Spain and Latin America. All courses are taught in Spanish by faculty at the Universidad de Salamanca. Improving students written and oral proficiency in Castilian Spanish is a major focus of the program; both the language and area studies courses are designed to build on the language skills that students already possess. Salamanca is the ideal location for refining Spanish proficiency, balancing the pace of contemporary university life with the charm and dignity of a centuries-old university city, where friends and families still stroll through the Plaza Mayor on Sunday evenings.
