Directed by Mac Bakewell and Boosaba Nualhing, this distinctive opportunity invites motivated teens to experience Thai culture from an insider's perspective, while bringing English to life in the same village school that Boosaba attended as a girl. At the beginning and end of their month in Thailand, Inside Thailand participants will spend twelve days travelling throughout the Thai kingdom, from the Elephant Conservation Center in the north to a secluded tropical island in the south. Along the way, participants will get to know revered Buddhist monks, renowned historians, and dedicated social activists. During the core eighteen days of this experience, Inside Thailand participants will live and work as valued members of a rice-farming, village community in Uttaradit. There, participants will teach English, plant rice, swim in the beautiful Nan River, and, most importantly, laugh and play and form durable friendships with their Thai peers. Academic Credit Academic credit is available.  Most high schools will give community service credit for this program. Eligibility Enrollment is limited to the first eight qualified applicants. Applications are welcomed from students in grades 9 through 12 from across America and around the world. Housing/Accommodation • Homestay / Host Family During the 18 days we spend in Boosaba's village, the eight participants are based in Boosaba's home and at the village temple, but participants are always welcome to accept invitations to stay with other approved families in the same village. Program Costs USD $4,350 Costs Include:  The Inside Thailand 2009 program fee of $4,350 includes all ground transportation, meals and lodging, and all tickets to museums, performances and special excursions. Travel expenses to and from Thailand are not included in the program fee. Inside Thailand arranges group air travel. As of October 2008, round-trip airfare from Los Angeles to Bangkok is $1,350. The airfares for Inside Thailand 2009 will be determined in April of 2009. Financial Aid Yes. Limited financial aid is sometimes available to exceptional applicants. Dates The program dates for 2009 are June 19 to July 19. Deadlines Applications are due by April 15, 2009.
