Overview
Manukau School of Visual Arts is located in a purpose designed, newly refurbished building, which presents a contemporary and vibrant learning environment.
The School is NZQA/NZPPC and CUAP accredited to deliver a variety of high quality visual arts programmes from Levels 1 to 7 in line with contemporary artistic and design trends.
The School has developed a reputation for the innovative quality of its programmes and teaching which is testified by our links with our partner institution The University of Auckland.
By mastering and being articulate in visual, verbal and written communication, students develop the critical faculties necessary to develop inquiring, broad attitudes. These future artists and designers will be aware of the need to continually review ideas and previously held positions. The School promotes a student-focused environment and a culture of peer learning and support.
Common to the visual arts programmes is an underlying structure of personal growth and development. The open-endedness of learning is maintained in a structure of sequential development from lecturer-directed to self-directed and independent realisation.
Our student profile reflects the cosmopolitan character of the greater Auckland region, and attracts students from all over New Zealand and overseas. The School draws in students of all ages, from school leavers to mature age learners seeking a change of career or direction.
The School has a special commitment to Maori and Pacific Island students, for whom an elder system operates as a support network within the School.
