Overview
The program gives students the opportunity to live with a Russian host family for three weeks in the summer while participating in Russian language classes (inside and outside the classroom) and taking part in a variety of excursions and activities. A two-day trip to Moscow is included.
Students have the option to be matched with a Russian exchange partner of their age. If this option is chosen, the two exchange partners first spend three weeks together with the Russian student’s family in Russia and then three to four weeks with the American student’s family.
The program is designed to give American high school students the precious opportunity to experience life in Russia first-hand. By stepping beyond the role of a tourist, students develop Russian language skills, gain insights into Russian culture, and build lasting friendships.
The program takes place in Vladimir, a 1000-year old Russian city of about 400,000 located about 120 miles northeast of Moscow. Students are met at the Moscow airport and then driven past vast birch forests, through villages, and small towns to this former capitol of ancient Russia.
Eligibility
U.S. students aged 14 – 18 are welcome to apply. Although desirable, no prior knowledge of Russian is required.
