Overview
Soaring over two miles above sea level in the Andes and often referred to as the “Tibet of South America”, Bolivia is known for it’s great heights. It is home to the highest capital city, as well as Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. With an average of only 20 people per square mile, Bolivia has one of the lowest populations in South America, and considering there is very little tourism, visitors will have plenty of room to explore the vast terrain. Bolivia is the only landlocked Andean nation and the fifth largest country in South America (roughly the size of California and Texas combined). The terrain greatly varies by region. In fact, many of the world’s climates and ecosystems can be found here. About half of the country is jungle and home to some extraordinary wildlife including pumas, jaguars, monkeys, armadillos, and a variety of rare reptiles and birds. The astonishing biodiversity of Bolivia is sometimes likened to the Garden of Eden, and you’ll see why. After all, there are few places in the world where you can see playful monkeys in tropical rainforests and llamas climbing snow peaked-mountains all in the same day.
The school occupies a large building on one of Cusco's main avenues, Avenida El Sol, directly in front of the most important site from pre-Colombian Cusco, the Korikancha (Temple of the Sun). The school houses two full floors with 15 classrooms, a video room, a full kitchen, an entertainment room, and a sundeck. Classes are held in rooms decorated with typical Peruvian decor. The school is conveniently located next to the main post-office, near Internet cafes, banks, money exchanges, and other conveniences. It is about four blocks from the main square, the Plaza de Armas, which is the popular central meeting area of Cusco (a great place to make new friends, or just people watch!). There are many restaurants, cafes, cathedrals and museums nearby. The teachers are all native speakers of Spanish, who have received extensive training in teaching Spanish to adult learners.
