Overview
Any mention of Panama inevitably conjures up images of the legendary canal, but visitors to this small republic on the bridge between Central and South America soon discover that it contains so much more.
Bordering Colombia and Costa Rica on the east and west, Panama lies between the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. Aerial views reveal a country with an extremely diverse landscape: sweeping mountain ranges, vast rainforests, and 1,500 miles of coastline dotted with islands, lagoons, gulfs, and inlets. As a tropical nation, one-third of Panama is covered by jungle and its famous Darien jungle is the largest tropical rainforest in the Western Hemisphere next to the Amazon basin. This area is home to an astonishing diversity of life: including more than 2,000 species of plants and an array of exotic animals. While being bounded by two oceans creates a hot and humid climate over most of the country (with an average temp. of 73-81 degrees F), the higher elevations and mountains see cooler temperatures (66 degrees F). Your time in Panama will be a one-of-a-kind opportunity to interact with a congregation of cultures from around the world and explore stunning vistas while being immersed in a Spanish-speaking society.
The school is located in the beautiful residential area of Altos del Chase, which is only ten minutes from the city center and near a commercial area with banks, bars, discotecas, international restaurants, and movie theaters. Classes are held in one of six classrooms and groups are limited to not more than four students. Internet access is available on campus as well as at nearby Internet Cafes. Formal classes consist of four hours of Spanish instruction daily, five days a week. From the beginning, students are taught exclusively in Spanish through the Total Immersion Method. In addition to formal classes the school also offers many additional activities. Students have the option of staying with one of the schools excellent host families. This is highly recommended, as it is a great opportunity for students to practice Spanish daily with their families in and informal setting, while simultaneously experiencing the culture more thoroughly. For a true immersion experience in Panama this is the ideal school.
