Overview
The Syracuse University program in Florence, operating since 1959, takes full advantage of the city's tremendous resources. Professional programs in architecture, visual/performing arts, and management, and extensive courses in art history, the humanities, and social sciences offer students the opportunity to uncover the city's artistic treasures and to understand the economic, political, and social milieu that brought them into being.
The majority of coursework features on-site learning, which provides insight into contemporary Italy as well as the past. At the core of the Syracuse program is language, the key to a rich understanding of another culture. Native-speaking faculty members provide courses that ensure all students develop their language skills. The housing component contributes to the total immersion of students by placing students directly with Florentine hosts.
The Syracuse program is supported by excellent student service coordinated by an academic director and bilingual staff. There are academic and personal advisers, internship and housing coordinators, a librarian, and a visiting doctor. Students have access to e-mail and internet resources and an extensive library.
