Overview
Chambéry is in the South East of France, in the Alps, at an altitude of 270 m (800 feet) and is near to both Geneva and Lyon. It is a city of ART AND HISTORY and is the historical capital of Savoie, with 100 000 inhabitants. The Institute is near to :
- Chambéry's medieval town centre, which evokes life in the 13th century,
- the André Malraux Cultural Centre and the Espace Curial (concert hall, cinema, theatre and discos),
- the ultra modern Jean-Jacques Rousseau central library and study centre.
The Alps, Savoie and Chambéry are characterized by old castles, lakes, National Parks, vineyards and summer and winter mountain activities. The average temperature fluctuates from 0°C to 10°C in winter, from 10°C to 20°C in spring and autumn, and from 20°C to 30°C in the summer.
