Overview
Journey to India to directly experience the spiritual traditions and artistic traditions of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism. This program is designed for people who are called to explore the East, but who don't necessarily know the nature of the call and for those who want to explore a variety of spiritual expressions found in India and to mine each. Not for the faint of heart. For ages 17 and up. Fall (September- December). Spring (January - April).
Travel with a group of 6-8 students and two adult leaders. Learn Buddhist meditation in Dharamsala (where the Dalai Lama lives). Teach English to Buddhist monks. Attend an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism course in Bodhgaya (where the Buddha attained enlightenment). Trek in the Indian Himalayas. Study hatha yoga near the source of the Ganges. Help orphaned children in the mountain town of Rishikesh. Volunteer at the Mother Theresa home for the destitute in Varanasi.Study Hindi language in Varanasi. Intern under a master stone carver, tabla (drum) professional, sitar (indian guitar) professional, batik artist, Indian chef, or traditional Kathak dancer. College and high school credit are available.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
College credit (up to 15 quarter or 10 semester hours) is available for each program (semesters and summer). Students have also used our programs in order to complete their high school requirements.
