Overview
* An academic calendar consisting of two regular American-style Fall (September-December) and Spring (January-April) semesters, followed by the possibility of enrollment in the FU's Sommersemester (April-July) for students with adequate German language skills. Enrollment in the Sommersemester is only possible after completion of at least one regular FU-BEST semester and after prior evaluation of German language proficiency
* Participants can enroll in one, two or all three semesters
* Mandatory enrollment in intensive German language, offered at all levels, during the Fall and Spring semesters (6-8 credit hours per semester)
* A menu of non-language courses (3 credit hours) taught mostly in English by expert faculty, covering such topics and disciplines as cultural studies, art history, literature, the European Union/European security affairs, German/European history, German and European politics, film history, and philosophy (of art)
* Local field-trips as integral component of many of the courses, in addition to individualized assignments when feasible
* One long-weekend excursion inside Germany and/or to Poland, the Czech Republic, and/or Austria, included in the semester's program fee
* A small number of selected German students will participate in a number of the English-language courses
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
The FU is a fully accredited institution, permitting full transfer of credits earned to participants' home institutions. This has been our institution's well-established practice for many years. Students obtain home institution approval prior to enrollment in our program.
Eligibility
Minimum age is 18. Minimum GPA is 3.0, with any exceptions made after evaluation by the program staff. Not open to students from community or junior colleges.

Program Costs
* Tuition: 3,000 Euro per semester for the Fall and Spring semesters; 500 Euro for the German-style Sommersemester
* Program Fee: 2,900 Euro per semester when housing in a single-occupancy, fully furnished studio apartment is selected; 3,200 Euro per semester when a homestay (incl. breakfast and dinner) is selected
* The FU is a fully accredited institution, permitting full transfer of credits earned to participants' home institutions and, where possible, the use of students' home financial aid packages
* A small number of scholarships is available
Costs
Include: * Aside from housing, the Program Fee includes: two program dinners (Welcome and Farewell), an Orientation Week, several concerts/operas/museum visits, a monthly public transportation pass, one long-weekend off-site excursion, and course materials. Transportation to and from Berlin and other personal expenses are not included.

Tuition waivers and Program Fee grants. Scholarship applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.5.
