Live with a host family, volunteer, and explore Ecuador through organized cultural and ecological excursions. Ecuador is a country of many contrasts: tropical beaches, alpine passes, Amazonian rain forests, the famous Galapagos Islands and a capital city renowned for its "eternal spring" weather and quaint charm. Created through partnerships between Intrax Education Abroad (IEA) and Ecuadorian educational and civic institutions, the Learn/Serve/Explore program allows you to experience Ecuador from a "real-life" perspective, immersing yourself in the Spanish language and the culture of this fascinating nation. Participants choose either a 2 or 3 week summer program. During your stay you will study at the renowned Latin American Academy of Spanish, travel to some of Ecuador's most spectacular sites and lend your efforts to vital service learning projects. Alternately, those wishing for an intensive language immersion program may select the language only program, and focus solely on Spanish language learning. Both programs include roundtrip international airfare, homestay accommodations and weekend excursions, meal, insurance and more in the program price. Academic Credit Academic credit is available.  Undergraduate level Spanish credit granted. Student needs to let University know of plans in advance including course intending to take and number of class hours. Credit recognized by University of Southern Mississippi.
