Overview
The Summer Field Seminar is built around 2 courses (3 credits each) to examine the physical and cultural geography of Japan. The trip is designed to cover various regions of Japan, examining physical and cultural differences and likenesses among outer regions and such well-known areas as Tokyo and Osaka. Approximately 3-4 weeks of the trip will be held on the campus of IEC Kyushu Kokusai College in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto (near Nagasaki), Kyushu, and 2 weeks will be spent using the rail system to travel between Hokkaido and Kyushu. The field seminar provides a unique opportunity for students to conduct field studies and research on a variety of critical issues facing Japan's environment, culture and economy.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
GEO 334 220 - Environment, Sociology, and Economy of Japan (3 credits)
GEO 406G: Field Studies in Japan (1-9 hours; carries graduate credit) Field based study of selected topics in cultural, environmental, political, social, urban or economic geography of Japan.
6 credits transfers to your home school.

All lodging is included and arranged for the rail trip portion of the trip. The homestays in Yatsushiro are arranged also.

Cost of the 6-week program is $3500 plus tuition.
