Overview
Join World Endeavors for a semester, summer, or full academic year studying in Florence, Italy in the heart of Tuscany. This region represents the cradle of the Italian language and the birthplace of the Renaissance. Its distinguished heritage and present-day cultural vitality make Tuscany an ideal place for students who have a desire to come into direct contact with Italian life and culture, both past and present. Students earn US academic credit while studying Italian language, culture, history, art, business, and a variety of other subjects in one of Italy’s most dynamic cultural regions.
Courses are taught following a semester calendar with a 14-week fall session, a 14-week spring session, and a 4-week summer session. As all instruction is in English, no prior study of Italian is required. The program provides a study abroad experience firmly based on the American academic tradition. It brings together faculty from prestigious colleges and universities worldwide.
All faculty hold terminal or advanced degrees from major universities throughout the world and are knowledgeable in and have experience with U.S. university standards.
Students are expected to take a lot of responsibility for organizing their own time and work. Attendance at all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor. Periodic exams, homework assignments and final exams are also administered.
The program is designed to meet the needs of both Italian majors and those pursuing studies in other fields but with a strong interest in Italy. It also caters to the needs of those with little or no background in Italian. Classes are taught in English. A placement exam will determine the language level of each student to appropriate language coursework.
Many people believe that the best way to study in Italy is to study in a place that allows for direct daily contact with Italian communities. World Endeavors’ Study in Italy program was developed to provide students more experience with local communities and authentic Italian culture.
Students enjoy the natural beauty and culture of Italy through two guided excursions scheduled during the semester or one during the summer. These are typically one day trips.
At least once a week, an optional cultural or social activity is organized for the students. This might include a traditional Italian dinner, a festival, a museum visit, or a sports event. These activities give students exposure to Italian culture and an opportunity to practice their Italian language skills.
