AIU also offers courses in Japan Studies and Japanese Language for international students. Enrollment is approximately 550. Size of class is small. Average student-faculty ratio is 15. Percentage of foreign faculty member is 52% in 2007. AIU is located in outside of Akita City, the capital of Akita Prefecture. The campus, surrounded by forest, is 5 minutes from Akita Airport and 35 minutes from downtown. Academic Credit Academic credit is available.  Akita International University is an accredited Japanese public university. Eligibility 1) Minimum GPA 2.50 2) completion of at lesat one year (two semesters) of study at higher education institution 3) TOEFL score of 500 or IELTS 6.5 (for non-native English speakers) Housing/Accommodation • Dormitory • Apartment / Flat International students will stay in the same residence halls as Japanese students. Host families may be introduced for occasional visits by the city's international association. Program Costs Approx. $5,000 for a emester Approx. $2,000 for Winter Program Approx. $3,000 for Summer Program Costs Include:  The cost includes admission fee, tuition, room & board, processing fee, activity fee and health insurance.
