Overview
Earth Education International (EEI) is an interdisciplinary, multicultural experiential learning organization headquartered in Costa Rica. EEI works in collaboration with a worldwide network of non-governmental organizations, environmentally conscious communities and businesses, universities, secondary schools, and other centers of learning dedicated to sustainable global stewardship through hands-on learning. Our summer course is: 'Sustainable Global Stewardship in Costa Rica'
Description: Analysis of environmental problems, conservation, and sustainable development in Costa Rica. Evaluation of local community, governmental, and non-governmental (NGO) efforts to maintain or improve environmental quality (3 semester credits). This course will include field study, guest presentations, and group discussions. Three academic credits are available in the form of a transcript of 'recommended credit' issued by the University of San José in Costa Rica upon successful completion. NOTE: We can also assist in arranging Spanish study prior to, or during, the course. Please contact us if you are interested.
Location: The principal location of the course will be San Ramón, Costa Rica, where participants will live with Costa Rican families. Significant time will also be spent doing field study elsewhere. This will include four day-long field trips in the vicinity of the Central Valley to appropriate sites (e.g., sustainable businesses, organic farms, watershed conservation sites, renewable energy projects, and/or private reserves), as well as two three-day excursions elsewhere in Costa Rica (e.g., Arenal National Park/volcano and the Central Pacific coast).
Course fee: $1,500 The fee includes homestay costs (lodging & three meals per day), in-country travel and lodging, field site entrance fees, course materials, use of the facilities of the University of San José in San Ramón, and various group activities.
