Since being founded in 1992, we have grown to a team of 130 people around the world that sends 2000 volunteers annually. Volunteers can go at any time, for as long as they wish. Joining a medical program in Southern India is a real eye-opener. You will see a medical system that in many ways reflects the West but is interspersed with local influences. You may find a doctor trained in Europe who will not carry out an operation because of the position of the stars. You will come across tropical diseases rarely encountered in the West and conditions that have not been treated until too late. A medicine placement in India will give you a variety of experiences - clinics include leprosy clinics, paediatrics, gynaecological units and kidney care centres and busy general hospitals. A placement specialising in Ayurvedic treatment is also available. Your placement in India will involve rotation between the different placements, but if you would like to specialise in one area, we can arrange for you to concentrate your time in a particular department or hospital. The breadth of knowledge and experience that you will receive in India is unrivalled, and you will be working with doctors who enjoy the opportunity to impart their specialised knowledge to enthusiastic students. If you have experience they will want to put you straight to work, if you have no experience they'll show you all they can and give you as many hands on opportunities as possible. You will be working in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, in towns such as Puliangudi, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil and Sivakasi (where our Projects Abroad office is based), so you can experience Indian life in a number of different settings. Eligibility Minimum age = 17 Housing/Accommodation • Homestay / Host Family Program Costs Per month: $2,095 for one month, $2,595 for two months, $2,895 for three months, $545 for each additional month. Costs Include:  Food, Accommodation, Health & Travel insurance, in-country transportation and support. Dates Dates are flexible, for any length of time over one month.
