Overview
Projects Abroad sends volunteers abroad to 17 countries to do internships and service projects. Since being founded in 1992, we have grown to a team of 130 people around the world that sends 2000 volunteers annually. Volunteers can go at any time, for as long as they wish.
What better way to improve your Spanish as well as getting some valuable experience than working with a newspaper or radio station in Mexico? You will start off shadowing local journalists who will show you how things work, but by the end you should have your own tapes and published articles to take home for your portfolio.
Our journalism placements are based in Guadalajara and Ciudad Guzman. You can work for a radio station in either location or work with print journalists in Ciudad Guzman. In all the placements you will be given a real opportunity to get involved, but the more enthusiasm and effort you put into the project the more you will get from it. You may end up presenting an hour-long radio show three days a week or searching out stories in the town, giving you lots of opportunities to meet local people.
If you have an interest in football you may spend an evening watching Chivas play in the Jalisco stadium; if you are interested in politics, you may act as a researcher for the news team. Let your editor (and us) know what interests you most.
The project is open to volunteers of all ages and experience. All we ask is that you write and speak Spanish to a good standard. Many volunteers who don't feel confident enough in their language skills start off doing a month or two on another project practising their conversation skills and then join the journalism project.

Program Costs
Per month: $2,595 for one month, $2,995 for two months, $3,495 for three months, $745 for each additional month.
Costs
Include: Food, Accommodation, Health & Travel insurance, in-country transportation and support.
Dates
Dates are flexible, for any length of time over one month. Please apply at least 2 months before you'd like to start.
