Overview
The European Cultural History Tour (ECHT) is a completely unique approach to university study abroad. It combines a thorough tour of major cultural and historical sites throughout Europe and the Mediterranean with intense academic study of the culture and history being experienced. It's an ideal learning environment because it integrates reading and writing with direct involvement to give a richer understanding of the subject than book learning alone could possibly provide. The Summer European Cultural History Tour is a 70day program traveling from London to Athens.
London, Paris, Chartres, Versailles, Bacharach, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Munich, Zurich, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Brindisi, Delphi, Meteora, Athens, Mycenae, Epidavros, Crete.
Our tours are designed to involve students in varied cultural experiences in key cultural centers. We allow some time in major cultural capitals such as London, Paris, Berlin, Prague, Florence, Rome and Athens to enable students to further explore for themselves the cultural environment of these great cities. Theater, opera, concert performances and guided museum tours are included in the tour price. During the last 30 years, our staff has conducted more than 140 successful tours to Western and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, Russia, Israel, Egypt and Asia. In planning its itineraries, we rely on our staff's thorough knowledge of European history and culture acquired through extensive travel and study.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
Students must enroll in 12 semester hours of Eastern Michigan University credit on the Summer European Cultural History Tour (6 on the Western European portion of the summer program and 6 on the Mediterranean Cultural History Tour portion of the summer program). The courses offered are designed to meet basic studies or general education requirements. Courses at the 300 and 400 level may meet major or minor requirements. EMU students must take Art 100 before taking Art 379. Eastern Michigan University is fully accredited.
