Overview
Take advantage of an exciting study abroad opportunity exploring international conflict and peace in the heart of the Andes Mountains of South America. The University of Georgia Center for the Study of Global Issues (GLOBIS) and the Center for Mediation, Peace, and Resolution of Conflict—International (CEMPROC) have partnered to offer this dynamic program for undergraduate students, which will likely appeal especially to those majoring in international affairs, political science, peace studies, international development, Latin American studies, history, sociology, pre-law, business, anthropology, geography, communication, ecology, religion, and related fields.
Students will explore international conflict and peace, negotiation, mediation, ethnic and environmental conflict, international institutions, human rights, development, and more through conflict simulations, site visits, and an interactive approach to teaching. The program, which fully integrates theory and practice, will be given in English, and you will be able to apply the skills you learn through a practicum with CEMPROC, a nonprofit organization in Ecuador. Meet phenomenal guest speakers, including diplomats, scholars, government decision makers, and other peacemakers working in Latin America; past years' speakers included U.S. Ambassador Linda Jewell, former Minister of the Environment for Ecuador Yolanda Kakabadse, and leader of the Cofan indigenous nation Randy Borman, among other university, NGO, and government experts. Join us for this program as you make the international negotiating table your classroom.
