Overview
From boardwalk construction on the Great Ocean Road with fabulous views to penguin surveys on the nortwest coast of Tasmania, the Conservation Experience offers a fun way to travel to beautiful locations and make new friends while helping to conserve the Australian environment. You'll work alongside Aussies and other international volunteers and enjoy a variety of projects and locations during your experience. Some of the projects include
* Tree planting, seed collection and weed control
* Endangered flora and fauna surveys
* Construction and maintenance of walking trails
* Heritage and habitat restoration
* Erosion and salinity control
Participants must be over 18, in good health and enjoy outdoor activities. The program is open year-round, and you can choose a 4-week or a 6-week program. You will spend 1-2 weeks at each project site before traveling to another project location. Projects are located in both urban and rural areas. Be prepared for varying climates and pack accordingly. Project hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Volunteers usually have 1 or 2 days free per week to relax and sightsee.
You will be placed in a team of 6-8 volunteers. You will be shown how to use all tools and equipment safely before you start each project.
Housing varies according to project and location. Housing can include caravans, hostels, shearers' quarters, bunkhouses and camping (tents supplied). Volunteers should bring a sleeping mat as well as a sleeping bag, and be prepared to share.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included (vegetarian options are available). Everyone helps with cooking, cleaning and washing up.
