Overview
Four week program in the Irish-speaking region of County Galway (July 21-August 18, 2006). The language program is designed for complete beginners. Students take Elementary Irish Gaelic 1 & 2 (six undergraduate credits). CUNY has arranged for a bus to meet students at Shannon Airport and return them there at the end of the stay. The $3,100 program cost includes local transportation, tuition, social programs, full board, homestay with Irish-speaking family, and health & accident insurance. Classes will be taken at a campus of the National University of Ireland, Galway, in the village of An Cheathrú Rua (Carraroe). All instructors are fluent speakers of Irish. CUNY Prof. Thomas Ihde will be on hand throughout the program. In addition to several pubs with traditional music, the area is well known for its natural beauty and several beaches including a unique coral beach. The above fee does not include airfare which is about $600.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
6 undergraduate credits. These credits should be accepted as electives at your college. Many colleges permit these credits to be used to fulfill a foreign language requirement. If your school requires 9 credits, an additional 3 credits (Elementary Irish 3) can be taken on-line in fall 2006 from CUNY.
Eligibility
2.5 GPA. Adult students (non-credit seeking) who wish to audit the course would also be considered at a reduced rate of $2,900.

Typically six to eight students stay with a family. Price includes sharing of a room. Those wishing a single room are required to pay an additional $450 fee.
