From geishas, tea ceremonies and Shinto shrines to manga, anime and Harajuku fashion, present-day Japan is home to a unique combination of modern and traditional culture. There is a strong desire to preserve Japan's rich past; however, there is also a push for modern innovations and cutting-edge technology. Speeding bullet trains arrive on schedule to the second; ordering food is simplified with plastic replicas of menu items; and household toilets might have more buttons than your remote control! AYUSA awards Youth Leader Scholarships (YLS) based on academic merit and financial need. Deadlines are September 1st (Spring) and March 1st (Fall/Academic Year/Summer).
