Overview
Each summer, Kraków and the Department of International Polish Studies play host to foreign students within the framework of the Summer Study Abroad Programme. The Summer Programme is organized in close co-operation with the Center for International and Comparative Studies of Northwestern University. The Summer Programme is an intensive 6-week course of study where students come to develop their understanding of Poland and Polish Studies in an interdisciplinary manner. The Programme is specifically designed to fulfill the academic objectives and to complement the summer study abroad goals of the partner university.
The Summer Study Abroad Programme includes lecture courses co-taught in English with professors and other lecturers of the Department of IPS and Northwestern University. Study excursions focusing on the thematic nature of the curriculum are also offered. Participants of the Programme have at their disposal an on-site dedicated support staff provided by the Department of IPS to help adjust to the new cultural milieu and experience Kraków, the Jagiellonian University, and Poland more comprehensively.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
Credit is given based on the rules and regulations of the European Transfer Credit System which is recognized worldwide

Candidates for admission must be in good academic standing at their home university
Dates
The Summer Study Abroad Programme will take place from 24 June to 4 August, 2006. The deadline to apply is 15 April, 2006.
The relevant dates of the Summer Study Abroad Programme will run as follows:
Saturday June 24: Day of arrival to Kraków. Transfers from point of arrival and checking-in to the Stanislaw Pigon University Guest House.
Sunday June 25: Orientation meeting plus welcoming dinner and party.
Monday June 26: Classes to commence. The course timetable will run Monday to Thursday, thus students will have Fridays free unless otherwise indicated below.
Friday June 30: Sightseeing of Old Town and a visit to the Jagiellonian University Museum at Collegium Maius.
Saturday July 1: Morning: 1.5 hour Culture Shock Workshop. The workshop will take place in room 207 at the Department of International Polish Studies located at ul. Grodzka 64. In the afternoon, sightseeing of Kazimierz district.
Sunday July 2: Sightseeing of Nowa Huta district (optional).
Friday July 7 - Sunday July 9: Study excursion to Warsaw.
Saturday July 15 - Sunday July 16: Shtetl tour.
Friday July 21 - Sunday July 23: Study excursion to Lviv, Ukraine.
Saturday July 29: Study excursion to Oswiecim and the Memorial and State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Sunday July 30: Sightseeing of Salwator district including refreshment at Przegorzaly castle (optional).
Thursday August 3: Farewell dinner and party.
Friday August 4: Departures.
