Overview
Uppsala International Summer Session was founded in 1963 and is Sweden’s oldest international academic summer program. Some 220 people from all over the world come to Uppsala and the UISS every summer. Uppsala is Sweden's oldest university town. It's charming, lively and scholarly. The UISS is an intensive language program. Swedish is being taught 20-28 hours per week, at 6 levels, from complete beginners to very advanced. Teachers are highly qualified and especially trained in teaching Swedish as a foreign language. In addition several courses are organized with subjects relating to Swedish culture, history and society. Some are in Swedish, some in English. In the summer of 2007 courses will be organized from June 17 - August 10. The length of the courses is 4, 6 or 8 weeks.

Every Friday excursions take place to various places of interest. Different trips go to Stockholm with the Wasa Ship, Carl Milles Garden and the Old Town; Dalarna with a vist to the homes of Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn, two famous Swedish painters and famous places in the province around Uppsala. All students have access to the student nations, Swedish student clubs, where they meet Swedish students and sometimes they can dance there too. In the evenings different activities are offered. sports or if the weather permits we will have a BBQ. Swedish singers perform Films are shown on a regular basis. A very typical Swedish outdoor weekend is organized in Värmland. Building your own raft and float down the river, riding an icelandic horse, taking a long hike in the beautiful nature of Värmland, stay outdoors all night where it never gets dark. The long weekend to Helsinki is also very popular. A cruise on the ship from Stockholm to Helsinki is beautiful and fun, Helsinki is a totally different city from Stockholm. And then there is the thrill over being together with people from all over the world for a couple of weeks. Friendships that last a lifetime start in Uppsala. The international experience is something most people won’t easily forget and is also a very enriching experience.
