Overview
Program Description
Lock Haven University conducts this five week summer study abroad program with the cooperation of the University of Cassino in the region of Lazio Italy, just south of Rome. The program encompasses courses in Italian language and culture, courses in Italian art and courses in the studio arts such as drawing and painting. Students will participate in field trips to Rome, Naples, Florence and other Italian cities. Class size is 10-15 students. This small class size allows for a great amount of individual attention in our studio art classes. All classes are taught in English. In the Italian language courses English and Italian will be spoken.

Location
The University of Cassino. The city of Cassino is located in the Italian region of Lazio, halfway between Rome and Naples. This a prime location and enables us to easily take field trips to Rome, Florence, Naples and other Italian cities. Nearby is the Reggia of Caserta, (Royal Palace of Caserta). The Mediterranean sea is only about 40 minutes away with popular beaches and towns of Sperlonga and Gaeta in close proximity. The well known monastery of Mount Cassino is here, as well as an archeological museum which houses sculpture and objects created by the ancient Romans. Next to the museum rests an ancient Roman amphitheater. Cassino is also an ideal location in which to learn Italian. It is a small enough town not to be overrun with tourists. This is highly beneficial in that it allows the students to see Italian life less influenced by outsiders, and it encourages the students to practice the Italian they learn in the classroom.

Courses Offered
Studio Art, Art History, Italian Language, Italian Studies
Classes taught in English.

Course credit is provided by Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. Courses are taught primarily at the University of Cassino, (Universita degli Studi di Cassino), with trips and overnight stays in Rome, Naples, Florence and other Italian cities.

Value
Few if any programs offer a better value than the LHUP Study Abroad Italy program. Students stay in nice 3 star hotels and numerous field trips are included in the cost of our program. Students visit Naples, Rome, Florence and Venice. Many programs house students in triples or even quadruples (rooms). We place students in doubles and include meals at some of the nicest resturants in Italy. This allows our students to concentrate on their studies and experiencing the best of Italy.
