Overview
The Summer in Belize: Animal Science is a program that allows pre-veterinary students to study animal health and disease in large and exotic animals. We believe this program is perhaps unique in study abroad, particularly in regard to the ability to work with exotic animals.
Student coursework is very hands-on and includes sessions at farms and the Belize zoo. This is a superb summer experience for all pre-veterinary students looking to enhance their capabilities and knowledge about their intended graduate field. Courses are taken at Galen University, the only private, independent university in Belize. Galen University operates on American teaching standards and courses are taught in English.
Belize, often called Mother Natures best kept secret, is a tropical paradise and the only English speaking country in Central America. It is a stable democracy of about a quarter of a million people. Belize is a country of many cayes (small islands), inland tropical forests, pristine rivers, ancient Mayan archaeological sites and sacred caves. Along the 300 miles of Caribbean coastline lies the second longest barrier reef in the world.
