Overview
The Summer in Belize: Cultural Studies program is a short introduction to the issues, challenges and opportunities raised by the economic development of a developing multi-cultural nation.
The goal of this program is to gain an understanding of the interactions of various cultures and the issues involved in sustainable development, as well as to improve intercultural competencies. Courses are taken at Galen University, the only private, independent university in Belize. Galen University operates on American teaching standards and courses are taught in English.
Belize, often called Mother Natures best kept secret, is a tropical paradise and the only English speaking country in Central America. It is a stable democracy of about a quarter of a million people. Belize is both a pristine country pondering the correct development route and a true melting pot of cultures: Maya, Creole, European, Garifuna, Mestizo, East Indian, Chinese and Mennonite.
