Overview
ECI Summer study abroad in Granada and Southern Host Family Immersion offers intensive small-group Spanish classes in the Andalusian city Granada, cultural and language immersion with carefully chosen host families in Southern Spain, and an additional week of travel throughout Spain.
The group is limited to thirty students with at least three full-time adults: one trip leader and two additional chaperones. This is an ideal adult/student group in terms of student bonding, personal attention, organization, and safety – always our number one priority.
The program balances structured activities and free time. Morning Spanish classes are taught by native speakers and offer students the option of earning university credit. Recreational activities such as beach trips, soccer and horseback riding are organized, as well as cultural and social activities such as flamenco, salsa, concerts, museum trips, language partner sessions, tapas nights and movies. Plenty of free time is scheduled to explore the beautiful historic center of Salamanca and to take in the amazing art and architecture found in Spain.
Weekend travel to nearby villages and towns is included. The additional week of travel includes Madrid, Segovia, Toledo, Cordoba, Seville and the Mediteranean beach community of Nerja. A weekend trip to Barcelona is optional.
This program also includes one week of immersion with host families in one of the whitewashed Andalusian towns in Southern Spain. This feature offers a wealth of activities in a setting of outstanding natural beauty and culture. ECI participants are matched with carefully chosen host families who often have a son or daughter of a similar age and who are excited about sharing their homes and lives with an American teenager. Students truly experience the daily life of their host families during this special week and are generally placed one per host family during this time.
