Program Terms • Summer Program Participants • Undergraduate (College) • Graduate (College) Subject Areas • Art/Fine Arts • Design • Photography		Quick Look • Location: Berlin - Germany • Language of Instruction: English • Academic Credit Available: Yes Overview The purpose of the program, Design and Photography in Germany and Italy 2007, is to provide students with a thorough immersion into contemporary German and Italian design with emphases on product, furniture, and transportation design, branding and type design, contemporary art and architecture. Study of the influences of tradition and technology will also be undertaken in each area of emphasis through visits to influential design studios, designer showrooms and manufacturers. Program participants will also visit significant architectural sites as well as museums in each city to further gain a meaningful overview of influences on contemporary German and Italian design. An emphasis will also be placed on the everyday activities of the people of each culture and how we as outsiders relate to them in their workplaces and in other public places. Academic Credit Academic credit is available.  Students may chose three to six credit hours for this program. Required before the trip will be several one-hour orientations and lectures. During the trip attendance at all lectures and design visits at each site will be required. Failure to attend may result in failing the course. Eligibility Open to undergraduate or graduate Art and Design students from any accredited U.S. college or university. Minimum 2.5 GPA required (exceptions considered after submission of a petition). Financial Aid Yes. KU students who qualify for summer financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Pell or SEOG Grants, and scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a Study Abroad Program. Limited supplemental scholarships are available to KU undergraduates. Applications are available at the Office of Study Abroad. You can also download the scholarship application at the OSA website. The scholarship application deadline is March 1. Non-KU students should check into the financial resources available to them at their home institutions.
