Overview
The abundance of archaeological sites in the Aegean Sea, legacy of the ancient civilizations that have emerged here provide the inspiration for this unique course. Through a combination of field work and classroom sessions, students will discover the significant role of the marine element in the development of Aegean maritime cultures. Participants will be able to appreciate and experience in the field, the reasons behind the continuous emergence of maritime cultures and civilizations in the Aegean archipelago. Our guest lecturers and staff make presentations on renowned discoveries and prominent marine research projects they have been involved with. Nestled in the heart of the Cyclades, the crossroads of ancient maritime routes linking mainland Greece to Asia Minor, Paros is the perfect setting for this course.

Aegean Institute University Credit
Our courses interlock with the philosophy of those institutions who regard it valuable for a student to have a study abroad field work experience.
Each student is responsible for arranging academic credit with her or his College or university prior to attending one of our courses.
Each school has a different way of reviewing work and experience from student participation in an independent study abroad program and granting credits.
However, if requested, the Aegean Institute will provide evaluations and grades for the student's work, performance and participation.
These evaluations along with the work the student has accomplished during the course is presented to a committee back at the home school which grants credits.
We recommend that students discuss their plans directly with their advisor, department heads and the study abroad office and organize a cooperative plan with the Aegean Institute.
Our eleven week course involves about 330 contact hours.
We are a specialized field school teaching courses in a small-group tutorial environment (up to ~15 per session) and we stand ready to assist you and your home school in every way possible to organize and accommodate your study for credit while at the Aegean Institute.
