Overview
Teach & Travel: Thailand at Chiang Mai University (CMU) is an affordable and unique 30-day program that offers participants an opportunity to be more than just a tourist. Our goal is to provide participants with a holistic, meaningful and unforgettable travel experience that includes personal development, education, volunteer teaching experience, intercultural exchange and travel to some of the most naturally beautiful and historically interesting areas of Thailand. No other volunteer program in Thailand offers this unique blend of volunteering, travel, education and cultural immersion.
With a maximum of 12 people in each group, participants have the opportunity to personalize their travel experience and see the authentic side of Thailand. This means more hands-on experiences and unique opportunities not available to people travelling in large groups or alone.
The program begins with a one-week training course at Chiang Mai University, one of Thailand’s leading universities, providing participants with fundamentals of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). Participants will then apply what they’ve learned during three weekend English camps, totaling approximately 60 hours of volunteer teaching. At program end, participants who successfully meet the program’s requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion from CMU.
When not training or volunteer teaching, participants will travel within Thailand, discovering Thai culture, people and landscapes. Destinations include Chiang Mai, Mae Sariang, Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi and Krabi, offering a cross section of this diverse and amazing country. Travel experiences include cultural activities, tours of historical sites, visits to local environmental/conservation areas and excursions to some of Thailand’s most spectacular natural wonders. Participants also have the opportunity, if they wish, to try activities such as elephant riding, rafting, and snorkeling. Throughout the program, participants have opportunities to interact with Thai people and immerse themselves in the local culture.
Eligibility
Participants must speak English at a near-native level.
