The Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP) provides intensive group language-study for the semester, academic year or summer. Students with two years of college-level Russian-language instruction are eligible to apply; significant funding is available for this program through American Councils.
The program provides fifteen to twenty hours per week of in-class instruction in Russian grammar, phonetics, conversation, and cultural studies; U.S. academic credit is available. Academic program also provides local excursions, volunteer and internship opportunities, peer tutors, and Russian-American discussion clubs. A full-time U.S. resident director oversees the academic and cultural programs and assists participants in academic, administrative, and personal matters.
Students may live with Russian host families or in university dormitories in Moscow and St. Petersburg; students in Vladimir live with host families. The program in Moscow is hosted by Moscow International University, the Russian State Pedagogical University (Herzen) hosts the program in St. Petersburg, and the KORA Center for Russian Language hosts the program in Vladimir.
