Overview
The annual Eternal Cities study tour led by University of Dallas Emertitus Professor of Art, Lyle Novinski will contrast the great cities and environs of Paris and Rome in summer 2008. While the itinerary is still somewhat tentative, the tour is scheduled from June 11-22. Eternal Cities welcomes alumni, teacher, families, and college students to experience signifigant art and architecture through the centuries while imbibing the history of the region.
The stay in the Paris region will include the great cathedrals of Chartres and Rheims, tours of the Louvre, Museo D’Orsay, Cluny, a boat ride on the Seine and visit to the champagne caves of Epernay. Paris, a beautiful 19th city, introduces one to amazing medieval architecture along with the sophistication of French style and the importance of French history which reaches back to Rome, the Eternal City.
St. Peter’s Basilica and the astounding Vatican galleries are on Rome’s itinerary, of course, along with Ancient Rome, the Spanish steps area, Piazza Navona, the Museo de Roma, St. Mary of the Angels, Capitoline Museums–the list is endless. One cannot know all of Paris or Rome in a lifetime so Professor Novinski welcomes suggestions about things participants wish to include. While in Rome, a day trip to a great hilltown, Siena, is scheduled–home of St. Catherine of Siena, the Campo Festival, and incredible Cathedral.
