Overview
The JSP is a one to two semester study abroad program hosted by for University students from all over the world. We offer intensive Japanese language courses, as well as afternoon elective courses on Japanese culture, pop culture, history, economics, and society. JSP also provides field trips relating to the coursework, designed to give students a wide exposure to both modern and traditional Japanese culture. Students live with local host families, maximizing the immersion experience and providing virtually limitless language practice. The JSP is provided by Tokyo International University, an accredited Japanese University.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
Students receive 8 credits per semester for the Japanese course, and 4 credits for each afternoon elective. Transcripts are sent to students home institutions with course grades in percentage form.
Eligibility
Participation in JSP requires that you currently be enrolled in a University as an undergraduate student, and/or will be enrolled at the time of your participation in the JSP. You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 based on a 4.0 grading system, and have full-time student status. You must also be a native English speaker, or possess a minimum TOEFL score of 550.
Because of several sister school relationships with foreign universities, the bulk of JSP students come from the USA, Germany, and Sweden. In lesser numbers students attend from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Bermuda, and Singapore.
