Overview
Why LSA?
It is our priority to assist each student in having the most productive time here in Costa Rica. We are fully equipped to aid with travel arrangements, transportation, accommodations, and any other special needs. The "LSA" provides Foreign Language students as well as anyone fifteen years of age and older with a unique opportunity to become immersed in the language and culture of Costa Rica.
Our study abroad program is validated by the Ministry of Education and you can earn credits or ECTS (European Transfer Credit System).
Professors have a Masters degree and the programs are reviewed every year so as to adapt any methodological or evaluation changes for high academic quality.
Our Intensive Spanish and cultural programs offers 12 different Intensive (4 week/80 hours) courses in Spanish grammar, conversation and composition. The use of authentic and practical contexts facilitates the acquisition of vocabulary and grammatical structure. Students are coached in the analysis of linguistic and extra linguistic elements during the reading and writing practices. Evaluation system in all Spanish courses integrates convergent (grammatical structure) and divergent (global use of language) techniques in test procedures. All levels evaluate oral, listening, reading and writing assignments.
The exotic Central American country of Costa Rica is best known for its tropical rainforests, Micro- climates, serene beaches, and awesome mountains. Physical challenges range from surfing, serious cycling, to challenging nature hikes. For leisure there are many festivals, art museums and shopping plazas. Rated the safest Central American country Costa Rica has no army since it was constitutionally abolished in 1949. It has been blessed with a consolidated system of protected areas, high educational levels, political stability and a legacy
of peace and democracy. Costa Rican people are commonly known as "ticos".

Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
1. Pre-approval at your college or university: Contact the study abroad office or Spanish language department at your college prior to starting the program. It is important to get courses pre approved in order to earn academic credit for your language and elective courses. We can send syllabi for you to review with your academic advisor.2. Credit or ECTS: You may register to receive Credits or ECTS depending on the system which you are studying under. Semesters at Veritas are 15 week terms and there are three terms per year. One Semester Credit is based on 15 hours of work during a 15 week term. Academic course work includes class contact hours (50 minutes), laboratories, community practices and research assignments. If a course meets 2 hours per week and it is worth 3 credits it means that it has a one hour per week lab, practice or research assignment. If a course meets 2 hours per week and it is only given 2 credits in the transcript it means that it is a regular lecture course with only normal reading and homework assignments but no lab or field practice. Students who want a transcript for the European system can receive ECTS credits based the contact hours and the extra laboratory or individual work load. One credit is worth 1.87 ECTS based on 1 hour / week x 15 weeks plus 200% extra individual work.3. Transcripts: Official transcripts can be sent in Credits or ECTS. Transcripts are usually sent from Registrar to Registrar unless otherwise requested by the student or sending institution.
