Overview
CCI's High School in Brazil program enables you to strive for and develop linguistic fluency, independence, self-reliance, and tolerance within a well-established, secure structure.
You will be enrolled in a public high school abroad and documentation of school work done overseas will be provided.
As an exchange student in Brazil, you will live with a carefully selected, volunteer host family, and you will attend a Private High School.
There is no Portuguese language requirement to participate in the program, but you must be willing to learn. Because your host family and all of your teachers will speak Portuguese, and your classes will be taught in Portuguese, this can be a very challenging experience linguistically. It is also very rewarding, because you will learn Portuguese! The program includes Portuguese language classes for two hours each week during the entire first semester of your time in Brazil, for a total of 40 hours of instruction. These classes are included in the program. By virtue of the fact that you will be completely immersed in Portuguese, you can expect to pick up the language quite quickly.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
CCI will assist you in obtaining school credit for your study abroad if your U.S. high school institution is willing to accept the credits you earn outside the country.
Eligibility
Program open to high school students ages 15-17. Applicants should possess a high school cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

Homestay / Host Family
For decades, the cross-cultural homestay has been considered the best educational vehicle for the development of real international understanding. Students accepted to CCI's High School Abroad Program have profound opportunities for cultural immersion by living with a well-screened host family while attending a local high school abroad. Host families are volunteer families with the exception of Ireland and Australia, where families receive a small remuneration for hosting. Each host family agrees to provide its international "son or daughter" with meals and his or her own bed. Just as in the U.S., every family is different. You may share a room with a host sibling or have your own room. You may have younger, older or no host siblings. Both parents may work or your host mother may work in the home. Many host families have hosted participants from a number of different countries over the years. For others, hosting is a first time experience. As you can see, host families represent all walks of life. Host families do not want or expect a "boarder," but rather a new friend and family member. They look forward to welcoming you into their family!
