Overview
CCI's High School in Ecuador program enables you to strive for and develop linguistic fluency, independence, self-reliance, and tolerance within a well-established, secure structure.
You will be enrolled in local private high school in Ecuador and documentation of school work done overseas will be provided.
You will be taking a variety of courses that include math, anatomy, chemistry, history, drawing, and philosophy. Ecuadorian schools have a challenging curriculum and are very much focused on academics. However, you can easily find after school activities both at the school and in the community that may include sports, art, theater, cooking, and much more.
You may attend high school in the capital city of Quito, colonial city of Cuenca, picturesque and quiet town of Ibarra, or in a small community on the Galapagos Islands. No matter which location you find yourself in, you will be staying with a warm and welcoming host family. Although family size and makeup vary, it is common for a few generations of Ecuadorians to live under one roof. Host parents are excited to have you there, sharing in their culture and helping you to discover their amazing country. You will also gain valuable language skills both through your schoolwork as well as daily interaction in your host community. The Ecuadorian people are very open-minded and will always want to engage in conversation with you.
Included in the program fee is a one week orientation in Quito that includes an introduction to Ecuadorian culture and the school system, a tour around the capital city, as well as fifteen hours of Spanish lessons with a private tutor that will help you to brush up before you head off to your host community to begin your high school experience.
Academic Credit
Academic credit is available.
CCI will assist you in obtaining school credit for your study abroad if your U.S. high school institution is willing to accept the credits you earn outside the country.
Eligibility
Program open to high school students ages 15-18. Applicants should possess a high school cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

Homestay / Host Family
For decades, the cross-cultural homestay has been considered the best educational vehicle for the development of real international understanding. Students accepted to CCI's High School Abroad Program have profound opportunities for cultural immersion by living with a well-screened host family while attending a local high school abroad. Host families are volunteer families with the exception of Ireland and Australia, where families receive a small remuneration for hosting. Each host family agrees to provide its international "son or daughter" with meals and his or her own bed. Just as in the U.S., every family is different. You may share a room with a host sibling or have your own room. You may have younger, older or no host siblings. Both parents may work or your host mother may work in the home. Many host families have hosted participants from a number of different countries over the years. For others, hosting is a first time experience. As you can see, host families represent all walks of life. Host families do not want or expect a "boarder," but rather a new friend and family member. They look forward to welcoming you into their family!
